Extension Menus

EXTENSION MENUS provide differentiated choice boards with post-reading projects and activities for students reading the text or teachers presenting the text. They can be assigned to reinforce desired skills, as choices for individual interests, or to assure comprehension of the book. For younger children, they can be used by the teacher to save time creating extensions or post-reading projects or activities.

REASONS to use Extension Menus

  •  Menus increase understanding of a book before taking an Accelerated Reader quiz.
  •  Menus stress higher level skills and provide enrichment for the better student who finishes reading early.
  •  Students share their independent reading books with the whole class in a variety of ways.
  •  Multidiscipline projects and activities peak interest in a book for other students.
  •  Menu activities help parents share in the home reading experience with their child.
  •  Menu choices allow lower, grade level, and higher ability students to read at their levels while completing similar literary projects.
